What are Soul Contracts? The Akashic Records perspective

In this post I am going to be focusing specifically on Soul Contracts between individual souls. For example, a Soul Contract between a parent and their child. From the Akashic Records perspective, the general themes for this lifetime that we set out prior to coming into the incarnation are referred to as the ‘Soul Blueprint’ (not a soul contract).
Now that I have clarified exactly what it is that, I mean, when I'm referring to Soul Contracts, let's cover the most common questions I get asked about the concept of Soul Contracts as an Akashic Records Teacher and Practitioner.
WHY DO WE HAVE SOUL CONTRACTS?
From the Akashic Records perspective one single incarnation (even if you live to be a hundred years old), is a very short period of time from the perspective of the Soul. In utilising the Akashic Records we are given the opportunity to zoom out and see things from a much bigger picture perspective. For example, if you feel you are very ‘naturally clairvoyant,’ it is ordinarily because over multiple incarnations you have worked specifically on strengthening and developing that particular ‘clair’ sense.
One of the most potent ways that we learn, develop and evolve as a soul is through our various relationships to other people. We also tend to experience a variety of relationships with the same individual souls over multiple incarnations and this is where Soul Contracts become necessary.
2. WHO MAKES THE SOUL CONTRACTS?
The Soul Contract itself is between your higher self (i.e. your Soul) and another individual soul. It can be helpful to remember that everybody that you come into contact with is a fractal of their Soul. You are a fractal of your Soul incarnated into human form. We then develop the human incarnation specific relationship, which is at the ‘fractal to fractal’ level.
It should be noted here that this does not mean that in every single incarnation you experience with another soul that you have incarnated with previously, is going to take place in the same roles. It is extremely common for Souls who choose to continually reincarnate with each other to change the role and nature of the ‘fractal to fractal’ relationship.
For example, in a mother-daughter situation, you may be the mother and have a daughter in this incarnation, but it may be that in a previous incarnation, your daughter was the mother, and you were the child. This is extremely common and it comes up all the time in people's Akashic Records.
3. WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF SOUL CONTRACTS THAT WE HAVE?
We tend to categorise Soul Contracts as either ‘empowering’ or ‘disempowering’. This is a little bit of a misnomer because ultimately even difficult Soul Contracts are empowering. They just feel extremely difficult as you work through them. The main distinctive feature between these two categories is in an empowering Soul Contract there is the frequency of unconditional love between these two Souls and the Soul Contracts will feel supportive and assist their evolution. In a disempowering Soul Contract there tends to be some karma that needs to be worked through and ultimately neutralised.
The empowering Soul Contracts are often referred to as ‘Soul Mate’ or ‘Twin Flame’ Contracts. This does not mean that they have to be romantic relationships. Empowering Soul Contracts can come in multiple forms; be it teacher, parent, lover or boss.
The disempowering Soul Contracts are often referred to as Karmic Connections because of the residual karma between the Souls that is being worked through during the incarnation.
4. HOW WOULD I KNOW IF I HAVE A SOUL CONTRACT WITH SOMEONE?
When you come into contact with someone with whom you have a Soul Contract it feels the same, regardless of whether it's an empowering or disempowering Soul Contract. As the connection deepens you will be able to start feeling into the connection and discern if it is empowering or disempowering. The empowering Soul Contract will help you to feel expansive whereas in a disempowering Soul Contract, you start to feel contracted.
SIGNS YOU MAY HAVE A SOUL CONTRACT WITH SOMEONE IN YOUR LIFE
A deep knowing that you have met this person before (even though you haven't physically met this person in this incarnation).
Time feels different when you are in this person's presence. Time just flies by.
There is an element of telepathic communication between you and the other person. You may think of this person and then receive a text from them.
A feeling of being at ease and being able to open up to this person more than you usually would.
Similarities in the life experiences and circumstances between you and them.
Similar character and personality traits.
5. CAN SOUL CONTRACTS BE BROKEN?
This is undoubtedly one of the questions I get asked the most in respect of Soul Contracts. When people ask this, they are never asking about breaking the ‘empowering’ Soul Contracts; it is always in relation to the ‘disempowering’ Soul Contracts.
From the perspective of the Akashic records when I have raised this question, they have given some information that I share here as I think it will be helpful for the understanding of this topic.
The general answer is to this question is ‘no’, these contracts can't be broken’. There are of course, certain instances where it can be but what the Akashic Records explained to me is that in the cases where a Soul Contract could be broken for a specific incarnation this will merely extend and prolong the lesson. The Soul is going to have to deal with it some point, so why would you want to not deal with it in this incarnation and the opportunity has arisen? You absolutely cannot break the Soul Contract and then just never have to learn the lesson. Earth is a school and lessons, growth and experience are what incarnating here is all about.
The second point that the Akashic Records wanted me to highlight in respect of this is the necessity to learn to trust the wisdom of the soul. Your soul has entered into the soul contract for a reason. There is a lesson that your soul wants to experience. Even though it might not make sense at the limited human level of consciousness there is ultimately a reason behind it. You are equipped with everything that you need to experience the lessons that your Soul has chosen for this incarnation. Your Soul is guiding you through this incarnation, as are all your guides. You are always able to connect into these energies for guidance, especially when you're feeling lost.
6. HOW TO TELL IF A SOUL CONTRACT IS EMPOWERING OR DISEMPOWERING?
To try and determine what type of Soul Contract you are experiencing, I recommend the following:
Firstly, sit quietly and connect into the energy of the relationship. Bring that person into your mind and just try to feel into it. Get out of the head and into the heart and feel into the connection.
Ask:
Is this connection empowering me? Am I growing from the connection? Does it feel expansive?
Is this connection disempowering me? Am I rejecting parts of myself to keep this connection? Does it feel contractive?
If it feels contractive, ask your Higher Self, what is the lesson I am trying to learn from this situation? Make space for the answer to be revealed to you.
Pay attention to how the Heart Chakra feels when you are with the other person. Does it feel expansive and warm or contractive and shut off?
This can take time and as with everything worth doing, it takes practice. However, it will help you start to feel into the relationships in your life and connect more deeply with your Soul.
